Happy Weekend: Cool Breeze

Photobucket

{The right and left are from the lovely photostream of shawnisabelle on flickr.}

Laborday weekend sort of marks the official end of summer, at least for me.

And even though I want to coop up this beautiful four day weekend and work on school work and some Etsy orders, I know I should revert to my summer tendacies and get out there and DO SOMETHING.

And really, you should too.  Especially since it is a holiday weekend.

Cheers!

Confession #9: I always want to lay in the grass but I too afraid bugs with lay eggs in my hair.

Photobucket

{This photo is from the photostream of nikolinelr on flickr.}

But I often do it anyway.  Especially now that I don't live in Florida anymore with all that thick grass and assortment of creepy crawlies.

What keeps you from letting go and doing awsome Henry David Thoreau type things?

Cheers!

p.s. you like that picture I painted for you, didn't you?

Happy September: Nostaligia

Photobucket

{This photo is by shawnisabelle on flickr.}

In Baltimore this week, it has suddenly dropped 30 degrees and it is very nice, especially since I have to wait outside for thirty or so minutes for the bus.  But something about this abrupt change in temperature has got me melancholy.

Part of it, I think is that this temperature is very similar to the winter temperature in Florida {I know...nice!}.  The winter months were always tough as a youth with older brothers coming back in town, exams coming up with all these new and exciting distractions, etc.

But now that this type of weather has been superimposed on a fall day, I can't help but want to put on a pair of glasses and sit in front of a typewriter as I listen to DeVotchKa, Devendra Banhart.  So, as I put away my Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire albums {great for summer nights, not for study nights}, and sadly pack away my swimsuit I only got to use a couple of times this summer, I can't help but feel anxious about the fall.

I am not used to having to change from season to season with only three months to enjoy or not enjoy each one.  When each one rolls around, I wish I could hang onto it for as long as possible so I can get the most concentrated inspiration.  I then wish I could snap to a different season and do things differently.  Whether it be my nail color or my choices, it all makes me sad.

But in a lovely way.

Au Revoir, Summer

Photobucket
{This photo is by margaret durow on flickr.}

School has started, the air is thinning, and the days are getting shorter.  Unfortunately, this means that summer is coming to an end.
So, goodbye summer, we love you and will be happy to see you again in May!

Confession #8: Sometimes I am Jealous of Madame Récamier

And remembered this when I saw this photo on flickr.

Do you have a particular piece of art you love or wish you could be in?

So you missed me huh?
Yeah, I am terribly sorry for being Missing in Action for ten whole days!  Not only did Blogger crap out on me for a while {I finally got it sorted out}, but I have been super busy trying to get ready for the school year to start.  Which leads into a few things: because this semester is extremely busy {having to take a shuttle to the other campus for a few classes}, the posts won't be as frequent as they were this summer.  Which is probably a joke to most of you guys, as seeing I had a ten day leave of absence AND that vacation in July.  I will try to post as often as possible, but that may only be three or four times a week.

This also leads to something else, I will try to start back up my Weekly Etsy Finds.  I WAS going to do a Mad Men one last Tuesday when Blogger stopped working, so that will be this week.  And instead of doing back to school things this week, I will do that NEXT week.

Also, while this was down, I spent a lot of my time getting my Etsy Shop beautiful for the school year, so check it out.

*Phew*.  Did you miss me?

Cheers!

Explore: Shakespeare & Co.

One of my favorite places in France--no on EARTH--is Shakespeare & Co.  Not only is it a popular English bookstore in Paris, and not only did Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Ezra Pound spend their days there, it is also a place where I could spend hours discovering new books and ideas.  Here are several photos of the famous Shakespeare &Company:

About Last Night: Concert in the Park

Mark that off my list of summer things to do because I went to an awesome concert in the park last night.  Evan Watson {genre=blues!} was playing along with his amazing band.  We sat on the grass, had a lunchbox of snacks and jammed out to pretty awesome music.  And I DID bring my camera!

Here are some pics I took to document the wonderful night:

Photobucket
Melinda and I were commenting on how not-bluesy Evan Watson looks.  Seriously, though, he looks like someone I went to high school with, not a blues singer.  But he is a good one, at that.

Photobucket
My brother {left} found amazing seats, right there in the action.  It was a little crammed, but much better than the spacious spot Melinda and I had found way in the back.  {Fortunatly I had thought to wear shorts underneath my skirt}.  One the right is Shana, remember he skull ring?

Photobucket
Nicky, Tracy, Melinda: three awesome babes I dare to hang out with.

Photobucket
Melinda and I.  Apparently I look like I belong on the cover of Almost Famous, according to Tracy.

Photobucket
She doesn't.  Though, I do like my reflection in there.

Photobucket
Emily's burger and fries {the fries were good, but I forgot to ask her where she got that}.

Photobucket
Lots of people just hanging out on the grass jamming to some good music.

Honestly, when I was told it was a concert in the park in Mt. Vernon {not the Mt. Vernon you know, its the downtown of Baltimore}, I was like "what park?"  It's pretty teeny.

I have a few shaky videos of them performing that I hope to be able to post.  One of some song I don't know {still good} and one of their version of TLC's Waterfalls.  I knew all the words.  They also did She Came in Through the Bathroom Window which I would have also recorded if I weren't so busy dancing.  Goodness, it was amazing!
